Howlite was discovered near Windsor, Nova Scotia in 1868 by Henry How, a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist. it was given the name howlite by James Dwight Dana shortly thereafter. Howlite is also known as White Buffalo, Sacred Buffalo, Lapis Howlite, White Turquoise, Silico Boro Calcite, and Kaolinite. Howlite can be found in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and New Brunswick. It is also found in the USA, Russia, Germany, Mexico, Namibia, Pakistan, and Turkey.
